Residents of Ikuruma village in Nyamira County on Sunday received over 700 plastic chairs from area residents who reside in the United States of America.

Speaking during the donation, the diaspora team, led by Daniel Kauru reiterated that the chairs will be used during important functions such as wedding ceremonies and funeral services for only area residents.

He urged local committee in charge of activities to ensure the chairs are strictly used within the village, and suggested that the committee hires them out to neighbouring villages at a fee.

“We have donated the 700 chairs after thinking widely as a group. We have seen for years how the village runs short of chairs whenever we have visitors attending functions and that is why we insist that the chairs are strictly for use within the village,” he said.

They further advised that the money collected whenever the chairs and two tents are on hire to be used to educate children from impoverished families, besides promising to educate students from the village who will be admitted in a national schools.

“As diaspora community, we strictly emphasize that the fee collected after hiring the tents should be used on supporting children from needy families in various schools. We are also ready to support children who get admitted to national schools from next year,” added Erick Onsumu.

The three; Daniel Kauru, Erick Onsomu and Peter Makori are beneficiaries of Mr. Fred Machana Foundation that supported a number of people from Kitutu Masaba to USA about ten years ago.
