Residents from Itumbe location, Sameta sub county have been warned against underrating El Nino warnings by the weatherman.
They have been advised to take such warnings seriously and ensure they put in place mitigation strategies to avert negative effects of the rains.
Area Chief Henry Mirera has reminded residents within his area of jurisdiction of the looming dangers of the heavy rains and the need to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from impending disasters linked to the heavy rains.
Speaking on Monday at Nyang'eni village in Giasaiga sub location, Mirera said it was dangerous for local residents not to take El Nino rains warning seriously as it will adversely affect them if they were caught off guard by the heavy rains.
"I am warning residents from this area against leaving anything to chance, instead take urgent measures to put in place mitigation strategies against the impending El Nino rains," said Mirera.
The administrator observed that due to the changing weather and climatic conditions globally it was unpredictable over what might happen in the country if the global warming effects spread over to the country as the weather men has predicted.
Mirera warned local community members against blocking drainage systems near their homes and ensure they are free of heavy silts which may divert flash floods to homesteads and farms.
