Youth in Kisii County have been challenged to stay focused if they want to be the change agents who can steer the region to heights of prosperity.
The county’s youth representative, Cosmas Ayieko, at the same time urged the youth to evaluate the performance of their elected leaders before the next elections.
He advised them to shun leaders who still dish out handouts to young people to get elected into office.
“It is unfortunate if there are any of my colleagues who still get excited over the Sh50 handouts from politicians,” said the youth leader.
Speaking on Monday at a youth convention at Sameta Lodge, he called on the youth to channel their energies towards positive ventures.
Ayieko also welcomed the recent crackdown on illicit liquor by the national government, and appealed to young people to steer clear of drug and substance abuse.
He further called on the county government to initiate programmes aimed at harnessing talent among the youth, noting that such activities will help keep them on the progressive track.
