Young people have been urged to take up leadership positions so as to be part of the change they expect in society.

According to Nakuru County Youth director Wachira Migwi, young people are pace setters in any vibrant society that upholds democracy.

“Young innovative minds are what dictate us nowadays. Any society investing in youth is destined for bigger things,” he said.

He said it was only by utilising fresh views that the county can attract investors who will work with the county to stabilise projects initiated by young people.

Migwi further challenged Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to come up with policies that will see young people be incorporated in his administration so that they can feel to be part of the system.

“It’s only by being involved in administrative matters that will see them (youth) being confident in handling everything maturely, leave alone leadership,” he noted.

The country adopted a new system of governance after the 2013 general election under the county governments with resources being devolved.

Under the new system of government, youths and women were the greatest beneficiaries with resources being specifically allocated for them for empowerment and self-sustainability.

Migwi was speaking during the just concluded Nakuru county youths entrepreneurship training at the Presbyterian University of East Africa.

He encouraged youth to desist from the get-rich-quick mentality saying it was what was driving them into crime and other unwanted activities.
