Kisii County Probation Director Oribo Kinyosi has blamed double registration of land ownership for contributing to land-related murder cases reported in the region.
Kinyosi lamented that land registration brokerage cartels at the Registrar of Lands Office have contributed to double registrations of land, leading to conflicts on the ownership of land registered under two different title deeds.
Speaking to this writer in his office, Kinyosi called on the Land Registrar in the county to streamline land registration documentation to fight the vice, which continue contributing to land-related disputes in the area.
“Having a parcel of land registered under two different names leads to land ownership conflicts, which if not handled well will lead to the elimination of the one perceived to have falsely claimed land ownership through fictitious registration,” observed Kinyosi.
Kinyosi said for the double land registration conflicts to be addressed, there should be proper systems and succession, to ensure it is only the Registrar of land who deals with registration and issuance of title deeds upon approval that the land in question has no dispute over its registration and succession.
