An Egerton University student has sued the institution for omitting his name from the students’ graduation list for two years in a row.

Kiprotich Raymond filed a certificate of urgency seeking to stop the university’s graduation ceremony scheduled to take place on June 20. He accused the university of failing to include his name in last year’s graduation list.

The student said he joined the university in 2009 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the faculty of commerce and was to graduate in June 2013 but his name was missing from the list.

He says his efforts to contact the school administration proved futile as he has never received any formal communication to date.

Kiprotich said he has been making trips from Kericho to the school but the dean of students has been reluctant to assist him.

Through his lawyer Benard Ng’etich, the student presented documents proving that he had cleared with all departments at the university and there was no reason preventing him from graduating.

Kiprotich said the school conducted another graduation in December last year but his name was not included on the graduation list.

In his suit, he stated that he was entitled to fair administrative action and alleged discrimination from the public institution.

Kiprotich asked the court to stop the graduation ceremony and wants to be compensated for the damages he had been caused.
