The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK), South West Diocese Bishop Rev. Joseph Ombasa has warned parents and local communities in Kisii South Sub-County against neglecting vulnerable children, and should instead support them to grow into responsible future citizens.

Bishop Ombasa regretted that local communities had abandoned orphans and other vulnerable children whose parents passed on, as others seek refuge in crime and abuse of drugs to the detriment of their lives.

Speaking on Sunday at Kerina ELCK Special School for the Deaf after presiding over the donation of foodstuffs presented to the school by the Chairman of the Sacred Centre for Widows and Orphans Samson Nyandoro, the Bishop challenged communities and well-wishers not to neglect vulnerable children in their midst, instead support them morally and materially to ensure they succeed in life.

“Children occupy a very special place in my heart and whenever they suffer I feel touched, reason why I am passionate about their plight and various challenges they face,” stated Ombasa

He thanked Scared Centre for Widows and Orphans for their support to the vulnerable children in the local communities, challenging other NGOs and development partners operating in the region to collaborate with the NGO to ensure children from the school access quality education through support to the children.
