Eldoret West Police boss Smollett Munyianzi has assured university and college students renting hostels within Eldoret town of their safety and asked them to collaborate with the police in fighting crime.

Speaking to journalists at his office on Tuesday, Munyianzi said that police have beefed up security following the killing of a second year university student on Sunday night.

Munyianzi wants the students and residents to report suspicious people to the police for immediate action.

“We are concerned by the recent wave of crime and want to assure residents that their safety will be guaranteed,” he said.

Munyianzi added that law enforcers will not tolerate law breakers, adding that the fight against crime will be taken a notch higher.

The police boss intimated that more police patrols will be initiated in the area to get rid of criminals.

He at the same time appealed to university and college students in the area to share their issues with their school administration to avert tragedies, further noting that cases of death as a result of love having gone sour have increased in the area.

On Sunday night, a second year Moi University student was stabbed and killed by his boyfriend at their rented house at KPA estate, a case that drew condemnation from the students and administration alike.

The assailant was later lynched by students after committing the murder.

Police investigations into the killing are ongoing.
