There is need for public and private institutions to recruit competent and trustworthy staff in the information, communication and technology (ICT) field to ensure safe custody of their data.
Speaking in Nakuru town Thursday during an ICT meeting, United States International University lecturer Clement Obuoya said it was unfortunate that some IT experts were exposing their institutions secrets to outsiders thereby putting them at a risk.
The lecturer advised institutions to recruit competent ICT staff with advance technical skills which will advise them properly of the storage of their information.
He said it was advantageous for such institutions to invest in advanced ICT equipment and secure their information for posterity instead of engaging a person with basic knowledge on ICT who could not offer adequate advice.
Obuoya said it was advisable to install a local cloud computing system because it would not be accessed by outsiders.
He said it would be wise if the institutions to invest in a well secured system.
Saying that all institutions had their classified information, USIU ICT lecturer said the future of institutions was placed in the hands of IT personnel who should continue keeping themselves a breast of the latest technologies in the sector and advising accordingly
He told the managers to be in control of storage of all information by demanding updated information from the IT personnel.
