Kisumu County gender sociologist Florence Atera has challenged Lakeside region residents to embrace girl child education saying that ladies also needed to be represented in the leadership.

Speaking to this writer today (Friday) at Tom Mboya Labour College, Atera called upon the Lakeside region members not to sideline ladies in education matters.

Atera noted that some parents neglected girl child education and instead prioritise boy child education, which he said is not very essential in the society.

According to Atera, parents need to nurture both the boy and girl child equally and avoid neglecting children based on gender saying that the behaviour is not healthy at all in the job market.

"We need to promote girl child education just as it is in the case of boy child education by creating more awareness to both parents and girl child on the importance of getting educated,

We should not sideline girls in favour of boys as other parents see it wiser to educate boy child than girls," noted Atera.

She further called upon ladies not allow their parents to sit them back at home in favour of their brothers.

One of the parents’ representatives Quinter Ogola being interviewed stated that some parents never embraced girl child education, challenging her fellow female parents to be activists of girl child education by funding girl child education and not keeping them at home.
