Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro has urged senators and Members of the National Assembly to work together and stop unnecessary tag of wars between them.

Speaking at Skyline Boys Secondary School in Kikuyu sub-county, Ethuro said that tag of wars between senators and MPs will derail devolution.

The senate speaker said that there is nothing to fight over as the senators and MPs have their responsibilities spelt out clearly.

“I urge senators and MPs to foster good relations and work together on issues of legislation both at the senate and National Assembly level,” he said.

The speaker said that survival of devolution depends on the senate, the National Assembly and the County Assembly.

He stated that the mandate and responsibilities of both Houses have been spelt out clearly in the constitution.

Ethuro said that though the Houses may differ on certain issues, the same should not interfere with their mandate.

The Senate speaker said that for devolution to succeed, both Houses must commit to their work and address rising key issues.

He said that threats by some MPs to scrap the Senate will not help but will instead make matters worse.

A section of MPs have threatened to table a motion that will see the Senate scrapped out.

The MPs claim that the Senate does not have specific roles and their work is being done by legislators in the National Assembly and County Assembly respectively.
