Former Njoro Ward councillor Fred Muhando has appealed to the county government of Nakuru to employ more Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers to address the deficit.
Muhando said that it is illogical to have ECD centres that do not have enough teachers.
"We would want the county’s department of education to hire more teachers for our ECD centres so that our children can get a good foundation in their education. There is a big shortage of ECD teachers in this county, a move that does not augur well with education standards," Muhando said.
He also wants the county government to post the teachers to church owned ECD centres.
"Many churches now have got ECD centres. We would like some teachers posted there because we are complementing the county government's role of providing quality ECD education,” Muhando added.
He was speaking in Njoro on Thursday during the opening of the Njoro Salvation Army Church ECD Centre funded by the World Challenge Team, a UK based charitable organisation.
