The construction of Thika-Gatitu road has started, Kiambu Roads CeC Njeri Gatabaki has confirmed.

Speaking to journalists in her Thika office on Monday, Gatabaki said the road expansion project is expected to take between three and six months.

"We are expecting to end the traffic congestion on Thika-Gatitu road and that is why the road has to be expanded. We want faster and easy access for those going in and out of Thika town," said Gatabaki.

She, however, noted that during the construction period, traffic congestions along the road may get worse as one section of the road has been closed down.

"We would like to appeal to motorists to exercise caution while using that part of the road as it is now narrower than usual. Those coming or going out must give each other way to ensure there is no much congestion," she said.

On the dispute between the county government and Thika Prison authorities that had marred the construction of the road, she said the dispute was being resolved as construction goes on.
