Kiambaa Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) has advised pregnant women in Kiambaa to visit health centres frequently for checkups.
Speaking in her office on Monday, Dr Stella Mwangi said the number of pregnant women seeking checkups had gone down thus there were many cases of miscarriages being reported at the hospital.
The doctor said some women ignore medical checkups which was wrong as it is important to monitor the health of the foetus.
Mwangi said expectant mothers are given a lot of advise during the checkups and those who fail to recieve the advise end up having difficulties when giving birth.
The doctor said they advise expectant mothers not to engage in heavy work at home, and ensure they eat a balanced diet that will benefit the baby.
She added that those mothers who go to hospital only when it is time to deliver give birth to children who are underweight and suffer from other conditions due to the mother's ignorance.
"It is advisable for pregnant women to visit health centres for checkups as it is very important for their unborn babies. Those who ignore this can only blame themselves when their children are born with different conditions," said the doctor.
She said many children are born unhealthy and weak as a result of parents who do not visit health centres.
Dr Maina said the condition of unborn children depends on their mothers and they should show their concern by visiting health centre.
She also urged husbands to play a role by escorting their expectant wives to health centres.
