Police in Kikuyu are looking for a 23-year-old lady who allegedly stole a motorcycle and Sh50,000 from her boyfriend’s house.
The two are said to have lived together for one month after they met on social media. The woman allegedly stole with the help of two other unknown men using a pickup early Monday morning.
Moses Kinyua said that he met the girl two months ago via facebook and it was his first time to invite the girl over to his house. He said that all he knew about the girl is that she resided in Nairobi’s Kayole Estate.
Kinyua said he had left for prayers on Monday morning at around 5am as is his daily routine before coming back to start his day as a bodaboda operator.
He said that when he left, his girlfriend was asleep. He said that when he came back, he found the house locked with a padlock. He said that he didn't have the keys as he didn't expect the house to be locked when he came back.
"I tried calling her line but it was off. I realised something wasn't right in the house. I broke the door and my motorcycle was missing and my money that I had stored in my bedroom drawer was missing," said Kinyua.
Speaking in his office today, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu warned residents against trusting people they meet on social media too fast.
He said that this was not the first time such a case was reported stating that about seven cases of people been stolen from by people they met on social media.
He said that not everyone on social media was good as criminals were using the platform to conduct crime.
He said that investigations had been launched to arrest the suspect.
"My warning to all residents is not everyone you meet on social media is good. Some are criminals who gain your trust easily then conduct their criminal acts. You should be careful," warned Maweu.
