A small-scale farmer in Riakemuma Village of Sameta Sub-County is counting losses after losing one of his sheep to stray dogs roaming in the area.
Maruch Oroko recounted on Wednesday how he had tethered his sheep the previous morning in his compound before leaving for his daily activities in the farm located some distance away from home. He was allegedly called home by one of his children who informed him of the attack on their sheep that was about to deliver.
Oroko lamented how the loss of his sheep had shattered his dream of selling it alongside others to buy a dairy cow after the one he had died last year.
"The sheep was attacked and eaten by stray dogs. I wanted to buy a dairy cow since accessing milk for domestic consumption has been a challenge to my family," stated Oroko.
Oroko challenged area residents to be vigilant and take precautionary measures to ensure the stray dogs menace is addressed before it gets out of hand. This, he said, is because it poses serious safety and health risks to local residents.
