A Nakuru court on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment for defiling his 13-year-old daughter.
The court heard that Samuel Njoroge had separated with his wife a few years back and had been left to take care of the girl.
He took advantage of the situation and on several occasions defiled the girl.
The girl at first reported the incident to her grandmother who did not report the matter to the relevant authorities because she wanted to protect her son from the legal consequences.
The recurrence of the beastly act prompted the minor to seek intervention from a close neighbour who in turn reported the matter to the Maili Kumi area chief.
The area chief consequently informed the police from Bahati Police Station who later arrested the accused.
The court was told that on several occasions between 2012 and 2014 at Maili Kumi Estate within Nakuru County, the accused person had defiled his daughter. Njoroge had denied the charges and had since been in custody.
In her judgement Nakuru resident magistrate Mary Otindo said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubts.
“It took the prosecutor’s intervention to summon five witnesses who in their testimony confirmed the charges read against the accused. The victim’s medical report obtained from Maili Kumi Hospital also established that the she had indeed been defiled,” she noted.
