Uasin-Gishu county commissioner has cautioned the employers who are fond of abusing and mistreating their house helps.

Speaking from his office, Mr. Abdi Hassan claimed that the abuse of house helps cases are on the rise especially with regards to the ladies and he has appealed to anyone who has experienced such cases to speak up.

The commissioner added that many male employers take advantage of the financial crisis of the house helps and some of them go to an extent of demanding for sexual favours from them.

“It has comes to our attention that many employers are misusing the house helps and this is not acceptable. Anyone found guilty of this act will be prosecuted," said Abdi Hassan.

The commissioner pointed out that many of those facing the challenges are the ones working on contract for example those who are paid to only wash the clothes and are paid immediately the work is done. Some of the employers then take advantage and ask for sexual favours before paying them. 

Mr. Hassan assured the victims that his office is committed to taking legal action against the culprits but that they also need their assistance since reporting such incidents is the only way they will be able to act swiftly. 

“We can't sit down and let our women suffer because of such employers," added Mr. Abdi Hassan.
