Uasin Gishu County Chairman of Imams and Muslim Preachers Sheikh Abubakar Bini has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education to respect Monday’s Supreme Court ruling on teachers’ pay raise.
He said the two should look for alternative ways of getting money to pay tutors with immediate effect instead of giving lame excuses that they don’t have funds.
Speaking to journalists in Eldoret on Wednesday, Bini said it is time for the government to get serious in upholding the court ruling to avert a strike should the tutors feel disgruntled.
He further urged the ministry and the TSC not to use delaying tactics on the same saying that teachers have been neglected for a long time while other civil servants salaries continue to enjoy better remuneration.
“The national government should look for money even if it means taking loans from other countries to settle the matter once and for all for learning to continue peacefully,” he said
On Monday, the highest court in the land declined to hear a petition filed by TSC challenging the Appeals’ court ruling to uphold a 50-60 per cent pay rise awarded to the teachers by the labour court in June.
Meanwhile, Bini has urged the national government to put in place strategies that will regulate importation of sugar to shield cane farmers from being exploited. He warned politicians against politicising the matter.
