Fire destroyed property of unknown value at King David nursery school in Mwembe town, Kisii County.

The fire is said to have originated from an explosion of three gas cylinders at the school.

Confirming the incident, Kisii police boss Simon Kiragu said three people were injured in the inferno and rushed to Kisii level 6 hospital for treatment.

“The three are already receiving treatment,” he said.

The fire was contained by the residents after the firefighters from Kisii County government run out of water.

The angry residents threatened to burn the fire engine complaining of laxity and inefficiency in the county government's response to disaster.

This happens only two weeks after another fire razed down a building in the same town. Residents have raised concerns about their safety.

“This is the second incident, two weeks ago a house in Mwembe was burned. We are really worried” James Ombogo, a resident said.

Kiragu has further urged residents to be vigilant in order to avoid such occurrences.
