Uasin Gishu County deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged women to form groups so as to benefit from the Sh10 million Inua Mama na Kuku programme.
The programme is an initiative of Governor Jackson Mandago which seeks to improve the livelihoods of women.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at 64 stadium, Chemno said through the programme, women are given chicks to rear and make money instead of staying at home as housewives.
"The Inua Mama na Kuku programme is an initiative of Governor Jackson Mandago where he saw how women were suffering due to lack of jobs and decided to set aside Sh10 million where women are given 100 chicks free of charge to rear and improve their living standards," he said.
He said 10,000 women have benefited from the project which started two months ago.
“I urge women who have benefited from the programme to ensure that they take care of the chicks well since it is their source of livelihood and should use it in changing their lives financially.”
