Four people died on Friday night while several others were seriously injured in a grisly road accident at Migaa shopping centre along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The accident occurred at around 9 pm and involved a Nissan Matatu and a trailer.
According to eye witnesses, the driver of the trailer was trying to overtake another vehicle before colliding head on with a Nissan Matatu.
Among the dead were three men and a 10-year-old girl.
Confirming the accident, Molo Administration Police (AP) Commandant Joseph Mwangi said the four died on the spot.
He said that seven passengers in the Nissan Matatu got serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.
Mr Mwangi said that investigations into the cause of the accident have been launched.
“We have immediately launched investigations into the cause of the accident,” he said.
He, however, said that preliminary investigation shows that the accident might have been caused as a result of reckless driving.
The AP commandant said that the number of accidents had increased along the Highway.
Mwangi said that most cases of accidents are being caused by careless driving.
The Molo AP boss warned errant motorists saying that they will be dealt with.
“We cannot continue to lose innocent people on these roads. Motorists must obey all traffic regulations,” he said.
The Nakuru-Eldoret highway is notorious for road accidents with Sachangwaan and Salgaa trading centres being labeled as notorious black spots.
