Four hundred youth drawn from different parts of Thika have graduated as qualified motorcycle riders after undergoing a training exercise facilitated by area MP Alice Ng'ang'a.
The MP on Friday gave out the licenses to the riders in the ceremony that was held at the Thika Sub-County Stadium.
This was the second phase of the training after the first phase in 2014 saw the same number benefit from a similar training facilitated by the MP.
Ng'ang'a said that the programme was part of her plan on empowering as many youth as possible to create employment in the constituency.
The bodaboda operators have also been registered in a Sacco that they will use to save money and grow their businesses.
Ng'ang'a promised to facilitate further training of bodaboda operators in the constituency in a bid to reduce accidents that have been attributed to untrained riders.
She says that many youth have benefited from engaging in the business adding that if all are trained accidents will be reduced.
She called on the operators to help the traffic police base commander Apelles Chacha who was at the meeting to crack the whip on rogue and untrained operators among them.
She said that youth in the area have aided in the fight against illicit brews and pledged to continue with the efforts to empower them.
"I will continue with the programme to keep young people occupied and free from idling which may take them back to alcoholism," she said.
