A Charity Organisation has launched a free breast screening campaign in Kisii County.

Medical Charity Health Care Rescue will offer free cancer screening at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisii during the campaign.

The organization’s head Roseline Nyakonu, who urged the residents to come out and know their status, said most cancer diseases can be cured if detected early.

The medical check up at Kisii Aga Khan Hospital will run for one month, as both women and men are urged to take advantage of the free check up.

She further said that most women are dying from breast cancer as the disease does not receive the attention it deserves.

“There is rise in cancer cases in the region. There is need for concerted efforts aimed at promoting cancer prevention, early detection, improved diagnosis and treatment,” she said.

“I urge both women and men to undergo this free cancer screening. Come and get tested, do not wait until it is too late. Early detection is the most effective way of fighting breast cancer,” urged Nyakonu, who was speaking to journalists at the facility on Thursday.

According to the officer, a large number of women do not bother to check their breasts due to lack of awareness to perform self-breast examinations.
