Guardians and caretakers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Juja Sub-County have been advised to register them to ensure they receive support from the government.
Speaking in Witeithie when she commissioned floodlights in the area in the company of area MCA on Thursday, Kiambu Women Rep Annah Gathecha urged residents to ensure the OVCs are registered with the social departments in the county.
She requested them to seek more information from the children’s department or visit the local administrative leadership for guidance.
"Make efforts to register orphans and albinos. This will enable us to place them on the government upkeep funds programme," she said.
Gathecha expressed her concern over the escalating increase of orphaned children in Kiambu. She advised married couples to observe family values to reduce HIV and Aids related issues which leads to children being orphaned.
The current HIV/Aids prevalence statistics in relation to orphans in the country stands at 48% of the total 4.4 million figure. OVCs basic care responsibility, she noted, falls under the elderly and poor caregivers with financial constraints.
She said that to address these challenges, there are government funds to assist the caregivers who should be registered to benefit.
