Few months after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced government subsidy in the transmission of electricity, a local politician from Gesima ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency has unveiled a project of lighting at least 50 households in the region.
Speaking on Monday at Gesima market during the launching of the ambitious project, aspiring MCA Charles Maroko Mokaya said the project will target the neediest households who could not afford to buy kerosene daily.
He said the programme will help needy students from the humble backgrounds to undertake their studies without necessarily failing to do their homework.
“The government has made such of the services available to us that are why we are taking the opportunity to connect needy households with electricity. It will really help children from homes that cannot afford kerosene. Electricity bills are cheap and I hope after the connection, each household can be able to clear the bills,” he said.
Mr Mokaya said he had nominated a committee of experts that will assess the households that were in dire need of the electricity in a bid to dispel any fears of favouritism.
“The exercise will be very transparent because there is an existing committee that is going to table its recommendations on the households they think is in dire need of electricity,” he said.
The programme will kick start this September and the second face later on November that will also target at least 30 households.
