Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Uasin Gishu branch Secretary General John Bii has asked nurses to get ready for a strike if the county government does not pay their July Salaries and allowances immediately.
Bii says that they are tired of requesting for their salaries, adding that they will not use other means to get the attention of the government.
Addressing nurses and health workers at the Uasin Gishu District Hospital in Eldoret on Monday, Bii accused the Uasin Gishu government of playing games with their salaries.
The official, who did not specify the day on which nurses should down tools, said the government has not shown commitment in addressing their demands, a move he said continues to demoralise and anger nurses and health workers.
“The Uasin Gishu government should stop playing games with our salaries and allowances, we are tired of begging and its time we demanded,” he told nurses.
Bii said that there has been no communication from the county government in regard to the nurses and health workers’ complaints.
The official said that nurses were getting impatient by the government failure to respond to their demands.
“We should get ready to act if the government continues to treat as like 'small kids',” he told nurses and health workers.
On Sunday, the official had blamed the county government of lacking commitment and interest in their demands.
Nurses and health workers in some counties have threatened to strike, accusing county governments of undermining and allegedly mistreating them.
In Nakuru, county nurses and doctors downed tools last week accusing the government of delaying their salaries and failing to effect their promotions, though the strike was later called off on Friday.
