The increased cases of robbery with violence in Geta village, Nyamira County have prompted an urgent meeting to discuss the declining security in the region.
Led by area village elders, the residents now want the national government to deploy police officers from Nyamira County to avert the situation.
In the Friday meeting, they were unanimous that the government imposes a temporal curfew to help corner the criminals who have been executing the crimes.
They said the insecurity incidents were affecting the economy of the village with businesspeople closing their businesses early as a precaution of being robbed.
“We are really concerned with the state of security in this region. The robbers have been targeting our people are inflicting injuries a part from carrying with then valuables. The government should deploy security details here to avert search incidents. If it means imposing a curfew at night hours, we are equally ready,” said Kelvin Magangi on behalf of elders.
They urged the government through the provincial administration to investigate individuals believed to be aliens in the region occupying rental houses in the name of doing business.
“To be open, we have been receiving visitors from other areas who are occupying rental houses around. The provincial administration should investigate them by unearthing their previous history. Maybe they are promoting the vice because we used to live in harmony,” he added.
According to them, a number of homesteads and businesses have been vandalised in the last one month with authorities struggling to apprehend culprits.
