Residents of an informal settlement in Nakuru have asked County Commissioner Mr Joshua Nkanatha to do a reshuffle on the security detail in the area saying that they had failed in their mandate.
Complaining of evolution of a group of young men notorious for terrorising unsuspecting residents in the wee hours of the night and early morning, they accused officers at the nearby Gilani Administration Police camp of laxity.
"Security is our greatest concern because our police officers are sleeping on their job," noted Mzee Maina Nderi, the area village elder.
The gang is said to be a group of boys who like hanging out at a popular pool joint drinking and engaging in drug abuse.
"The perpetrators are known but now that many of them are friends with the police, nothing is being done while the innocent continue suffering," he said.
He demanded for convening of a security crisis meeting involving governor Kinuthia Mbugua to air their grievances.
"We are ready to sit with them and make them understand the situation on the ground because we are suffering," he said.
They accused the government of prioritising security in posh estates at the expense of slums, further threatening to hold demonstrations if nothing was done within weeks time to address the issue.
