Speaking on Wednesday at Gilgil Town, Nakuru County during the launch of Gilgil Motor Cycle Riders (GMCR) Sacco, the newly elected chairman Mr John Maina Gichuhi said the Sacco will act as a vehicle to improve their lives.

“Boda boda operators have been marginalised in financial sector and this Sacco will help them to be part of financial stream,” said Maina.

Maina said the Sacco will help members to access loans to buy their own motorcycles.

“For a long time most youth in boda boda industry depend on leasing motorbikes. But we must think outside the box and allow our members to own their own motorbikes,” said Maina.

He urged the members to make contributions to the Sacco to access loans which will enable them acquire their bikes.

“I appeal to our members to save with the Sacco so that those who depend on leasing motorbikes can have a chance to buy their own,” said Maina.

Maina also said the Sacco will roll out other projects to empower youth.

“Apart from buying motorcycles for our youth, we will embark on other economic projects to improve members' lives,” said Maina.

He further urged youth not to engage in alcoholism which has ruined many lives of youth.

The Sacco has over 290 members. Maina said they are in the process of recruiting more members.
