Gilgil MP Nderitu Mathenge has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend the directive on crackdown of illicit brews.
Speaking at Gilgil Town on Tuesday, the MP said an extension will enable the law enforcers to complete the exercise which he says is bearing results.
The legislator said thousands of illicit brews have been impounded and destroyed in many parts of the constituency.
The MP lauded the locals and the police in their efforts to seize illegal brews.
“The fight against illicit brews and illegal alcoholic drinks has been effective here in Gilgil. We request the president to extend the crackdown period so that we can completely get rid of brews and assess the exercise,” said Nderitu.
The lawmaker said alcohol and illicit brews are to blame for many challenges facing the consistency.
He said a large population of young people has been 'trapped' in the vice adding that alcohol has also seen many families fall apart.
Nderitu asked the local administrators to be on the lookout and deal with anyone who will attempt to continue with the brewing business, once the crackdown period ends.
The legislator also called for review of alcohol laws saying that lenient laws have given brew makers leeway to continue brewing.
