Gitaru MCA Charles Kariuki has lauded Gitaru chief James Gitau for his gallant fight against illicit brews and hard drugs in the area.
Speaking on Sunday in Gitaru during an illicit brew crackdown led by the chief and his two assistants, Kariuki noted that good community policing and the Nyumba Kumi initiative had helped fight the sale and consumption of drugs in the location.
During the crackdown, 60 rolls of bhang and several litres of chang'aa were impounded.
Two men and a woman who are reported to be involved in the illicit brew business were also arrested during the crackdown.
"I would like to thank our chief, his two assistants and a policeman commonly referred to as Larry for the good work they are doing. They have managed to nab several rolls of bhang, litres of chang'aa and a chang'aa brewing machine this weekend alone," said Kariuki.
He added that community policing had started bearing fruits in the area and urged all residents to come out and support the chief's efforts.
"Residents of Gitaru have been coming out to give information that enables the chief and the police to maintain law and order. We really appreciate their tip offs. We encourage them to continue providing the police with such information."
The arrested suspects are expected to be arraigned in court today.
