Githunguri Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr Julius Mutula has hailed the area residents for cooperating with police, which has led to a decline in insecurity cases in the area.
Speaking in his office on Friday, Mutula said that maximum cooperation between the residents and the police department has helped in boosting security in the area making the place safer for development to flourish.
The DCC said that ever since the implementation of the community policing by the residents, cases concerning insecurity have significantly gone down and citizens are able to concentrate on their social-economic activities without unnecessary distraction.
He noted that Githunguri has recently become a safe place to work in, with the town becoming a 24-hour economy, adding that 'Mungiki' cases have also gone down.
The commissioner added that community policing had played a role in bringing law breakers to justice, as citizens were able to tip security apparatus on suspicious elements in their neighbourhoods.
Mutula said that locals have been able to work hand in hand with the officers by sharing with them credible information pertaining any form of insecurity and that they were reliable partners.
“The officers have in turn been able to act swiftly by responding promptly to the residents’ distress calls. We should maintain security from the grass root,” he said.
Mutula said the good relations between the police officers and the residents, as well as efficient information channels had gone a long way to complement each other to restore normalcy in the area.
The commissioner further added that a new police post would soon be opened at Gakoe, Ngewa location to enhance security in the region.
He noted that they already have four officers who will be working at the police post and further encouraged people to report any suspicious and unlawful activities in the area.
