A youth group in Githurai 45 has embarked on a car wash business as a way to stay away from crime and drug abuse.
The group was started in February 15, 2015 after a some reformed drug users came together. The group, Githurai Youth Bunge, aims at transforming the youth and getting them out of idleness.
Group chairman Benard Njogu said idleness in the area led to criminal activities among the youth as they claimed that there were no jobs. He added that the group was there to help such youths get out of such addictions.
He revealed that the group was open to all youths as it was a platform for them to change.
Njogu said that the area MP played a major role in the formation of the group. Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo donated a tank.
‘’We are doing well and so far we have been able to attract other youths. We started as 15 members and we have attracted seven more which to us is a great achievement because we have changed lives,’’ said Njogu.
Njogu said the group plans to open more car wash businesses in the area to help youth get money generating activities.
According to Martin Mwai, a member of the group, the business has kept them forget drugs and criminal activities.
