Kisii Governor James Ongwae has reiterated his commitment in supporting institutions of higher learning in a bid to produce competent and dependable graduates in the job market.

Speaking on Thursday in his office, Ongwae said his administration was geared towards equipping universities and colleges with infrastructure and other learning equipment, as a step towards achieving the objective.

He challenged administration of all institutions of higher learning within Kisii County to work closely by highlighting issues of essence that they needed the county government chip in and resolve for the sake of development.

“Education is a major investment to the county government and it is essential that we invest in our intuitions. My government is always ready to assist in such matters, infrastructure and capacity building, and that is why the managements must work closely with us,” he said.

He challenged managements and learners to resolve outstanding issues to avert constant strikes witnessed in institutions of higher learning for the sake of promoting safe economic freedom for residents.

“I have been seeing most of our universities and colleges go on strike paralyzing businesses in town. It is proper that management and students go to negotiating table to avert such incidents,” he said.

He lauded Kisii University for signing an MoU with the county to start a Medical school, a move that according to him will see more children learn medical courses near home and promote healthcare in the county.

“I am committed to supporting Kisii University to set a competent medical school and that is what we have done. It is important to note that our children will get an opportunity to serve the local community,” he said.
