Kisii Governor James Ongwae has challenged graduates from colleges and other higher learning institutions to be solution seekers to various economic challenges facing the country.
Speaking in his office on Monday when he hosted a group of recently graduated students from various institutions, Ongwae said the country was facing challenges due to inability of the graduates to take the responsibility of being solution providers.
He added that graduates needed to go to grass roots and educate people on how to be self-reliant, instead of persistently complaining to the government.
“As fresh graduates from college, we should be ready to be solution givers. Job creation lies on you and therefore I expect that you expeditiously come with solutions on some of the problems like unemployment that we are facing,” he said.
Ongwae defended requirements by the County Public Service Board to include regulations such as experience when recruiting, terming them as essential in any organisation or system.
“When recruiting, going for experience is important. You don’t have to have completed school to get experience. When you have passion in something, you can invest in it and show people that you can truly deliver,” he added.
The group, led by James Chiro, however, challenged the governor to empower youths to implement some of the ideas that they had presented in various offices.
“As youths, we are determined to be job creators. The hard part of it is the little support that we get from the government,” he said.
