A 75-year-old man has been arraigned in a Kikuyu Court for allegedly defiling his granddaughter.

The man is accused of committing the offence in Kin’gero Village in Kikuyu Sub County on June 24.

The court heard that on the material day at around 5pm, police at Kikuyu Police station received information from Nancy Wairimu, a neighbour to David Munene, the accused person who was alleged to be defiling his 16-year-old grandchild.

The neighbour, whose daughter is a close friend to the girl, got the information after she overheard the girl talking to her daughter about the severe pains she was going through in her genitals.

The prosecution stated that the accused started living with the girl two years ago after her parents died in a fatal accident.

Munene is accused of defiling the girl for months before the arrest.

The girl who was sharing the painful experience with her friend about the severe pains she was feeling on her genitals was overheard by Wairimu who was passing through the corridor of the girls bedroom.

She was shocked and she went in and told the girl to explain everything.

Allegedly the girl revealed how the grandfather could defile her every night for a period of three months and could threaten to kill her if she told anyone.

The girl who is a form two student had not gone to school for a month as a result of pregnancy.

Wairimu took the girl with her to the police station where they recorded a statement. The girl was taken to Kikuyu Hospital where she was examined.

Police went to the man’s house where they arrested him and presented him before court on Wednesday.

Munene pleaded not guilty to the charges before chief Magistrate James Ogweno.

Justice Ogweno set the hearing date for July 15. He, however, issued a cash bail of Sh200,000 to the accused.
