Farmers in Chulaimbo, Kisumu County are counting losses after a heavy downpour accompanied by hailstorms destroyed crops in the area on Wednesday evening.

The farmers have been praying for the rains to come as their crops were on the verge of drying up. However the rains came with a cost, destroying maize, beans and cow peas which were recently planted. 

"It is unfortunate that we have to go through this. The losses i have made are unbearable, i don't know where to start," said Mr Haris Okome, a farmer. 

Speaking to Hivisasa, the farmers said they are unable to plant again because of the hight costs involved. 

The farmers, however have blamed the weatherman for not warning them in advance of the disaster. 

"If the weather forecaster had told us that this could happen, then appropriate measures would have been employed to reduce damage," lamented Mr Isacc Koech, another farmer.
