The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Director John Kibosia has urged the national government through the Ministry of Health to fast-track the construction of the new referral hospital to ease congestion at the facility.

Speaking at the hospital on Saturday, Kibosia said the Sh28 billion ultra-modern hospital to be build on a 200-acre land in Eldoret town will help decongest MTRH.

"The Moi Teaching and Referral serves patients from several counties such as Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, West Pokot and Turkana. This makes it hard for MTRH to handle such a big number of patients due to inadequate staff, facilities such as beds, drugs. If the national government will construct an ultra modern hospital, such problems will be a thing of the past, thus quality health care,” he said.

He said currently, the hospital attends to more than 4,000 patients per day forcing them to admit two patients per bed which is against health standards.

"I urge county government since health is devolved function to ensure that they construct the hospital and fully equip it with drugs and enough staff as this will reduce the number of patients received per day thus leaving MTRH only to perform its mandate of handling only referral cases," he added.
