Hawkers and street traders in Nakuru are a happy lot after the county government officially launched the refurbished Nasher market.
A majority of the traders who spoke to this writer applauded Governor Kinuthia Mbugua saying he had demonstrated commitment in ensuring that all sectors of the economy are improved.
Speaking on behalf of the more than 500 traders, Simon Sangale who is the Street traders and hawkers association chairman said the new market will prove a milestone in improving on their working conditions.
"We have been segregated for long but under his administration. We can see light at end of the tunnel," he said.
Sangale called on the traders to maintain the new market knowing that it is where they get their incomes.
"Let’s learn to maintain the stalls, shops and kiosks because vandalism will not be tolerated. Let us remit revenue whole heartedly to help in maintaining the premises," he advised.
The market officially brings to an end the problem of hawkers and street traders congesting the town with a warning being issued that traders found hawking in the central business district will be arrested and prosecuted.
