Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has put on notice hawkers who are still operating their businesses in the Eldoret Central Business District that they will be arrested and charged for going against the county rules.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Chemno said that despite that the Uasin Gishu Couty government has banned hawking in the CBD, hawkers have relocated themselves, making Eldoret a security risk since cases of insecurity have increased in the streets.

“Despite the fact that we had removed hawkers from Eldoret town by the time we took over, it has come to our notice that they are now back, and as a county government, we won't allow them in the CBD, but instead should conduct their business at Eldoret West market where they were allocated,” he said.

He reiterated that if anyone will be found conducting his or her business at the CBD will be arrested by the county government, and prosecuted or charged to avoid re-occurrence of such behaviour.
