Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandango has criticised those advocating for health services to be taken back to the national government terming it as ill-intended.
Mandago said the county governments have been mandated by the constitution to manage the health sector and that cannot be changed.
Speaking in his office on Friday, the county boss said his government had done a lot to improve the health sector in the county.
"The health sector has really improved since we took over. Uasin Gishu residents can now access hospitals at their door steps, reducing the cost of transport as they used to travel to urban centres to access services. Now each sub-county has a Level Four hospital,"he said.
He said if a survey was done to compare the state of the hospitals before and after they sector was devolved, it would reveal Kenyans now access cheap and quality medical services at their disposal.
"There is an improved medical care such as maternity. We've employed more than 300 nurses to cater for the increasing number of patients and we've build an eye clinic one of its own at Huruma which could never have been done when the sector was still managed by the national government”,” he added.
"I urged the national to fully devolve the health sector since the Ministry of Health is still being given the Sh59 billion and yet the sector is devolved. Where are they taking the money? It should also be devolved to improve health services at county levels," he added.
