A provincial administratorin Nyamira County has appealed to residents in his sub-location to join in the fight against illicit brews.
Nyamakoro sub-location Assistant Chief Robert Monda lashed out those protesting against the crackdown and instead asked them to join in the war against the brews which he said had wreaked many families.
He said some of the men in the area had sold their land just to get money to quench their thirst rather than paying school fees for their children and meeting other family needs.
He asked brewers in his area to engage in viable ventures adding that anyone found selling illicit liquor will be prosecuted.
“We have many cases where people have sold their land and spend all the money on alcohol while their children are out of school due to lack of fees. We need to fight this,” said Monda.
“This is the time we need to sensitise people against taking illicit brews. We need to see our children educated and getting good jobs and in turn helping the society,” added Monda.
Speaking on Sunday during an operation to rid the area of the brews, Monda further lamented a surge in crime in the area.
