Three house-helps on Monday appeared before a Kisumu court to answer to charges of theft.
The three, Margaret Kamasi, Rebecca Oloo and Sheila Nyamuma denied stealing Sh70,000 from their employer in Poly View Estate, Kisumu.
The court heard that, the three stole the money from their employer's bedroom on May 10 while he was away. They are said to have gained access into the room by breaking the lock to the door.
Upon returning home in the evening, the employer, Solomon Abisa, noticed that the door to his bedroom had been tampered with. He proceeded to the servants quarters to find out out what had happened, but the house-helps could not be traced.
He called the police to his home to conduct investigations.
The three were later arrested after two days at a Manyatta house in Kisumu where part of the money was recovered.
The prosecution asked the court to deny them bail as investigations were still ongoing, however presiding magistrate Esther Maina said that the accused could be freed as there was no convincing reason to remand them.
They were released on a Sh10,000 bond each with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on July 18.
