Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has dispelled rumours that she will vie for Kisumu Central parliamentary seat in 2017 saying that would be lowering her status.
Odinga said the rumour is being peddled by her detractors and announced that she will be vying for Kisumu County gubernatorial seat in the next general election.
She said she had climbed the ladder and will not lower herself to be a representative of the people in the National Assembly.
“Already I am her Excellency, how can I again come down to be an MP for Kisumu Central,” she wondered.
She said her ultimate goal in the last general election was to be the Governor but publicly stepped down for the sake of peace in the county.
Speaking in Kisumu in the sidelines of ODM women league meeting on Thursday at Royal City Hotel, Odinga said her pronouncement will not affect her relationship with governor Jack Ranguma.
“I am in a good working relationship with Ranguma and my candidature will not affect our unity to work for the people of Kisumu,” she said.
She said for the remaining period she will diligently work for the people of Kisumu.
Odinga called upon the male counterparts who have started early campaigns for the seat to give them time and work for the people.
