Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa has cautioned youths against indulging in alcoholism saying it will ruin their lives.

Speaking when he met youths at Kikuyu town on Monday, Ichungwa said that alcohol abuse is on the rise in the constituency.

“Many of our young people are slowly falling in alcoholism trap and it may be difficult for us to address the matter is we don’t act now,” he said.

The MP blamed rogue bar operators who he accused of selling alcohol to teenagers.

He said that some bar operators have completely ignored government regulations on sale of alcoholic drinks.

The MP asked the Kiambu government to cancel licenses for rogue bars in a bid to curb sale of substandard alcohol..

He said that this was the only way of ensuring youths shun alcohol and drug abuse. The Kikuyu MP also asked the government to regulate licensing of bars.

He said that Kikuyu is slowly being turned into an alcoholic den. The Kikuyu legislator urged youths to shun drugs and work with him on development.

Ichungwa said that the constituency development committee has initiated various projects which youths should take part in.
