Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have appealed to the Ministry of Health to conduct screening of cancer in all camps in the country.

National IDP Chairman Mr Peter Kariuki said that they have been losing IDPs to the disease hence the need to have the screening services.

“We are appealing to the national government to help us tackle breast and cervical cancer, which have been a huge challenge to us,” Kariuki said.

He was speaking to the press outside Nuru Palace on Friday, where he pointed out that the health of IDPs has not been prioritised especially in regards to communicable and terminal diseases.

“We are also calling for free tests on diabetis and HIV in the camps. It is important for IDPs to know their health status,” he added

Kariuki lamented that many had also succumbed to phenuomonia and cold related diseases.

“With the onset of the El Nino rains, we fear that we might lose mainly children and very old people whose tents are leaking and cannot afford a stable meal,” he said

Kariuki also appealed to the Ministry of Environment to provide them with seedlings to plant during the rainy season.

“We want to utilize the heavy rains to carry out mass tree planting which will help us create a better environment,” he added
