Nyaribari Chache IEBC official Mr Benard Chieng’a who oversaw the whole voting exercise said that it was the first time a school was using the democratic method to elect their council leaders.

Mr Chieng’a said the process also aimed at training students on how the voting exercise is conducted freely and fairly as part of voter education.

“What we do is voter education because the students here are future voters and I want to request that if possible all schools, both primary and secondary, contact us to come and teach them on voter education. Any other school that wants to hold democratic elections should emulate Amasago Secondary,” he said.

He called on all schools including primary schools to seek their free services to help them understand the importance of free and fair elections.

Amasago school principal Mr Alloys Mogunde said that unlike in the past, students will now be able to elect leaders they want to students' council to encourage good leadership.
