Uasin Gishu Speaker Isaac Terer wants the national government to increase the funding to women and youth empowerment kitties so that more women and youths can benefit.
Speaking to youths at Eldoret Town on Thursday, Terer said that the current allocation to Uwezo Fund is not sufficient.
He said that many young people in the county are yearning for the money which he said is not enough.
The Uasin Gishu speaker noted that thousands of youths apply for the funds daily.
“We are urging the national government to consider increasing allocations to Uwezo Fund and other empowerment programmes in place,” he said.
Terer said that Uwezo Fund has helped and seen many youths start businesses. He said that unemployment will reduce drastically if more youths and women apply for the Uwezo Fund.
He advised youths to craft and develop smart business plans and ideas if they any to be consider for the money. He noted that many applications being received are not accompanied by business plans and business ideas.
At the same time, Terer called on the national and the county government to include persons with disabilities in its development agenda.
He said that PLWD have the same rights as other citizens and that their voices and concerns ought to be heard and addressed.
