Masaba Knut branch Secretary General may have immensely reaped from the ongoing teachers nationwide strike following crumbling of a vote of no confident that had been initiated by a section of members allied to his Deputy Mr. James Oteki.
Mr Meshack Ombong’i, who has been leading the branch for the last six years, survived the ouster motion that had been tabled earlier this month ahead of November polls following accusation of mismanagement and corruption.
According to a source privy to the meeting that was held on Tuesday at a Hotel in Kisii who spoke on condition of anonymity, the motion was dropped after the movers expressed their optimism in the manner in which he had lead teachers during the strike.
“I want to confirm that the motion has crumbled and the Secretary General will finish his term and probably seek the third term. The movers praised him of guiding teachers well in this striking period and dropped the no confidence motion,” said the source.
The source further confirmed that Ombong’i was likely to be elected again after his challenger Deputy Secretary General James Oteki said he will consider dropping his ambitions for the big seat.
“His Deputy may not again run for the seat in November after promising to consult his supporters. He reiterated to being happy with his current position,” added the source.
Mr. Ombongi refused to comment on the issue when asked over the phone and insisted that he was concerned with working for teachers and solve the impasse with their employers.
“I think that is a non-issue at the moment because teachers have pressing issues at this time. We will talk about that later,” he said.
